Person Track Safety – Inc. AC Lines

Overview

The PTS course is comprised of two components. There is an e-learning training package followed by a practical training day. Successful completion of the e-learning assessment is required prior to attendance on the practical training day, the E-Learning is arrnaged by the candidates sponsor.

The course is one day long (two if doing PTS DCCR also) and will have a maximum of six learners at a time.

Pre-requisites & Requirements

The following requirements must be met for this course to run to Network Rail Standards:

  1. Must be a minimum age of 16.
  2. Meet the medical requirements of Network Rail Standard NR/L2/OHS/00124 Competence Specific Fitness Medical Requirements.

Person Track Safety – DCCR (Working on or Near DC Conductor Rail)

Overview

This course aim is to provide the delegates with the skills, knowledge and behaviours required to work safely near or adjacent to DC conductor rails.

The course is one day long and will have a maximum of twelve learners at a time.

Pre-requisites & Requirements

The following requirements must be met for this course to run to Network Rail Standards:

  1. Must be a minimum age of 16.
  2. Meet the medical requirements of Network Rail Standard NR/L2/OHS/00124 Competence Specific Fitness Medical Requirements.
  3. Meet the requirements of Network Rail Standard NR/L1/OHS/00120 (Drugs & Alcohol).
  4. Must have successfully completed the PTS AC training and assessment prior to attendance.
  5. Must have sufficient command of English language, and of the English language as detailed in Network Rail Company Specification NR/S/CTM/021 (Competence & Training in Track Safety).

Track Induction Course (TR00)

Overview

This course is designed to train persons who are new to track and whose work may involve themaintenance, inspection or renewal of the track or other duties that may affect the stability, position or integrity of the track infrastructure. It is designed to develop a person’s knowledge, understanding and skills as defined in thecompetence standards listed below and is therefore particularly suited to persons required to prove their competence in these areas.

  • TR1     Maintain Permanent Way Assets 
  • TR2  Maintain ‘Off Track’ Assets

The course is five days long and will have a maximum of twelve learners at a time.

Pre-requisites & Requirements

The following requirements must be met for this course to run to Network Rail Standards:

  1. Must be a minimum age of 16.
  2. Meet the medical requirements of Network Rail Standard NR/L2/OHS/00124 Competence Specific Fitness Medical Requirements.
  3. Meet the requirements of Network Rail Standard NR/L1/OHS/00120 (Drugs & Alcohol).
  4. Must have successfully completed the PTS AC training and assessment prior to attendance.
  5. Must have sufficient command of English language, and of the English language as detailed in Network Rail Company Specification NR/S/CTM/021 (Competence & Training in Track Safety).
  6. Must have full minimum PPE available due to practical elements
  7. Must hold First aid at work, Fire safety and manual handeling training.
  8. Must hold competencies in the use of small tools and P-way tools (e.g. Jacks)

Site Warden

Overview

This course is designed to train persons who are responsible for undertaking this course as part of their duties on Network Rail Infrastructure. It is designed to develop a person’s knowledge, understanding and skills and is therefore particularly suited to persons required to prove their capability in these areas for Site Warden Duties

The course is a half day long and will have a maximum of eight learners at a time.

Pre-requisites & Requirements

The following requirements must be met for this course to run to Network Rail Standards:

  1. Must be a minimum age of 18.
  2. Meet the medical requirements of Network Rail Standard NR/L2/OHS/00124 Competence Specific Fitness Medical Requirements.
  3. Meet the requirements of Network Rail Standard NR/L1/OHS/00120 (Drugs & Alcohol).
  4. Must hold a valid Sentinel Track Safety Card endorsed with PTS 
  5. Must have sufficient command of English language, and of the English language as detailed in Network Rail Company Specification NR/S/CTM/021 (Competence & Training in Track Safety).
  6. Must have full minimum PPE available due to practical elements
  7. Candidates cannot attend if their Sentinel Card is endorsed, they must be accompanied.

Controller of Site Safety

Overview

This course is designed to train persons who have been nominated by their line manager/sponsor to enable them to attain the Controller of Site Safety (COSS) competence.

The COSS competence will be held by anyone who is required to set up a safe system of work on or near the line for a group (two or more people). A COSS can also carry out the duties of an IWA, provided there are no medical restrictions that would prevent this.The COSS course will take delegates through the procedures set out in the Rule Book; Handbook 6 (General Duties of an IWA), Handbook 7 (General duties of a controller of site safety (COSS), Handbook 8 (IWA, COSS or PC blocking aline), Handbook 9 (IWA or COSS setting up safe systems of work within possessions), Handbook 10 (Duties of the COSS and person in charge of a hand trolley) and Handbook 13 (Duties of the person in charge of the siding

The course is five days long and will have a maximum of nine learners at a time. (Durations for Contracting firms can be up to eight days due to needing to undertake PTS Recert, and then possibly adding on OLP and/or CRP)

Controller of Site Safety – Conductor Rail Permits inc. Testing.

Overview

This course is designed to train persons who have been nominated by their line manager/sponsor to enable them to attain the Controller of Site Safety (COSS) Conductor Rail Permit competence. This will be for candidates who need to accept Conductor rail permits from the authorised person and use a testing device to prove the conductor rail is DEAD.

The course is half a day long and will have a maximum of nine learners at a time.

Pre-requisites & Requirements

The following requirements must be met for this course to run to Network Rail Standards:

  1. Must be a minimum age of 18.
  2. Meet the medical requirements of Network Rail Standard NR/L2/OHS/00124 Competence Specific Fitness Medical Requirements.
  3. Meet the requirements of Network Rail Standard NR/L1/OHS/00120 (Drugs & Alcohol).
  4. Must hold a valid Sentinel Track Safety Card endorsed with PTS DCCR

Overview

This course is designed to train persons who have been nominated bytheir line manager/sponsor to enable them to attain the Individual Working Alone (IWA) competence.

The IWA competence is required to be held by anyone who is required to work on or near the line on their own.The IWA course will take delegates through the procedures as set out in the Rule Book; Handbook 6 (General Duties of an IWA), Handbook 8 (IWA, COSS or PC blocking a line) and Handbook 9 (IWA or COSS setting up safe systems of work within possessions) – Anyone whol holds COSS should not hold IWA also.

The course is four days long if PTS Recertification is required or three days if PTS recertification is not required will have a maximum of eight learners at a time.

Protection Controller

Overview

This course is designed to train persons who have been nominated by their line manager/sponsor to enable them to attain the Protection Controller competence.

A Protection Controller must be appointed when a line blockage is required to be taken and shared by two or more COSSs or IWAs.

The PC course will take delegates through the procedures as set out in Handbook 8 of the Rule Book, as well as highlighting the importance of using the correct communication protocols and adopting the appropriate behaviours to be able to carry out this role safely and effectively.

The course is one day long if and will have a maximum of eight learners at a time.

The following requirements must be met for this course to run to Network Rail Standards:

  1. Must be a minimum age of 18.

Engineering Supervisor

Overview

This course is designed to train persons who have been nominated by their line manager/sponsor to enable them to attain the Engineering Supervisor (ES) competence.

The ES competence is required to be held by anyone who is required to set up and manage a worksite within an engineering possession on the rail infrastructure under the direction of a Person in Charge of Possession (PICOP).This includes the management of on and off-tracking On Track Plant (OTP) and train movements within the designated worksite.

The ES course will take delegates through the procedures as set out in the Rule Book; Handbook 12 (Duties of theengineering supervisor) and Handbook 13 (Duties of the person in charge of the siding).

The course includes the importance of using the correct communication protocols and adopting the appropriate behaviours to be able to carry out this role safely and effectively.

Overview

The course includes the importance of using the correct communication protocols and adopting the appropriate behaviours to be able to carry out this role safely and effectively.

The course is four days long and will have a maximum of eight learners at a time.

Pre-requisites & Requirements
  • Candidates must hold either:
    • SPO1 as a section planner (Network Rail candidates only) OR PTS competence
    • If either SPO1 or PTS is not applicable to the job role, then the delegates must attend the Introduction to the Railway e-learning prior to attending the SSOWP course.
  • Must be a minimum age of 18.
  • Must have a good level of literacy to meet Entry Qualifications.
  • Must meet the requirements of Network Rail Standard NR/L2/OHS/0120 (Drugs & Alcohol), any person attending SSOWP shall have undergone a drugs and alcohol testing and achieved a negative result within the last 5 years and evidence provided. Where an individual already holds a valid PTS competence, there is no requirement to undertake a new D&A test.

CRE014 – DC Electrified Lines – Level B Testing and Strapping

The aim of this course is to enable certified staff to undertake the role of Level ‘B’ person for strapping activities in relation to the isolation of the conductor rail.

The course is one day long and will have a maximum of ten learners at a time.

Overview

The aim of this course is to enable certified staff to undertake the role of Level ‘B’ person for conductor rail isolations that require the operation of a NSCD.

The course is one day long and will have a maximum of eight learners at a time.

The following requirements must be met for this course to run to Network Rail Standards:

  1. Must be a minimum age of 18.
  2. Must meet the requirements of Network Rail Standard NR/L1/OHS/051 (Drugs & Alcohol).

DC Conductor Rail Basic Maintenance Course (DCCR 01)

The aim of this course is to provide delegates with the skills and underpinning knowledge required to undertake their duties in line with the associated competence.
