LA 3RD - R PA-i

This course is designed to train persons who are responsible for undertaking this course as part of their duties on Network Rail Infrastructure. It is designed to develop a person’s knowledge, understanding and skills and is therefore particularly suited to persons required to prove their capability in these areas.

​

The aim of this course is to enable certified staff to undertake the role of Level ‘A’ person for a Procedure ‘A’ isolation of the conductor rail.

​

1 Day Course

​

At the end of the course the delegate will be able to:

  • Demonstrate the method of supplying electricity to the conductor rail, including single feed, double feed and sectioning

  • Set up a safe system of work as a Level ‘A’ Person for a Procedure ‘A ‘ Isolation.

​​

Delegates:

  • Must be a minimum of age of 18.

  • Must meet the requirements of Network Rail Standard NR/L2/OHS/00120 (Drugs and Alcohol).

  • Hold a current Sentinel Track Safety Card endorsed with PTS DCCR and one of the following: a) Negative Short Circuiting Device Operators (NSCD Ops). b) Track Feeder Switch Operator (TFS Op). c) Level B – Switching (LB 3rd-R Sw-i) AND Level B - Strapping (incl. testing) (LB 3rd-R St-i).

  • Hold a current First Aid for Electrical Accidents certification.

LB 3RD - R PB-I

The Level A – Procedure B (Pro B) training course provides delegates with the knowledge and understanding required to undertake Level A Procedure B duties safely and competently on the DC electrified railway.

 

The course covers electrical safety, isolation procedures, roles and responsibilities, communication requirements and the correct application of Procedure B arrangements.

​

To enable certified staff to undertake to role of Authorised Person Level A for a Procedure B isolation of the conductor rail.

​

1 Day Course

​

At the end of the course the delegate will be able to:

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the method of supplying electricity to the conductor rail, including single feed, double feed and sectioning

  • Set up a safe system of work as an Authorised Person for a Procedure B isolation

Delegates:

  • Must be a minimum age of 18.

  • Must meet the requirements of Network Rail Standard NR/L1/OHS/051 (Drugs & Alcohol).

  • Hold a current Sentinel Track Safety Card endorsed with PTS (DC).

  • Hold a current First Aid for Electrical Accidents certification

  • Hold a current certification for testing and fitting short-circuiting straps and switching. (Level B Switching and Level B Strapping)

Level B Switching

To give delegates a detailed understanding of how to operate local track isolating switches as part of the procedure to isolate the conductor rail.

​

The aim of this course is to enable certified staff to undertake the role of Level ‘B’ person for switching activities in relation to the isolation of the conductor rail.

​

1 Day Course

​

At the end of the course the delegate will be able to:

  • Understand and apply the requirements of Level B – Switching.

  • Identify relevant DC electrical equipment and associated hazards.

  • Carry out switching activities safely and in the correct sequence.

  • Follow the appropriate electrical isolation and switching procedures.

  • Understand their roles, responsibilities and limits of authority.

  • Communicate effectively with relevant personnel during switching activities.

  • Apply appropriate safety precautions and control measures.

  • Demonstrate the knowledge and practical competence required to undertake Level B Switching duties, subject to the relevant assessment, Sentinel and Network Rail competence requirements.

Delegates:

  • Must be a minimum age of 18.

  • Must meet the medical requirements of Network Rail Standard NR/L2/OHS/00124 Medical Fitness Level 1, 2, 3, or 4.

  • Must meet the requirements of Network Rail Standard NR/L1/OHS/051 (Drugs & Alcohol).

  • Current Sentinel Track Safety Card endorsed with PTS(DC).

  • Must hold DCCR Level B Core Module.

  • Current Certification for Electrical Rescue and First Aid.

Temporary Isolation

The DC Isolations – Temporary Isolation training course provides delegates with the knowledge and understanding required to work safely in connection with temporary electrical isolation arrangements on the DC electrified railway.

 

The course covers the principles of DC isolations, electrical hazards and control measures, roles and responsibilities, communication requirements and the procedures associated with establishing and maintaining a temporary isolation.

 

The aim of this course is to give delegates a detailed understanding of how to obtain a ‘Temporary Isolation’ of the conductor rail in accordance with industry standards.

1 Day Course

​

At the end of the course the delegate will be able to:

  • Understand the requirements and principles of temporary DC isolations.

  • Identify relevant electrical hazards and associated risks.

  • Understand their roles, responsibilities and limits of authority.

  • Follow the correct procedures for establishing and maintaining a temporary isolation.

  • Apply the appropriate safety precautions and control measures.

  • Communicate effectively with relevant personnel throughout the isolation process.

  • Understand the requirements for the safe implementation and removal of temporary isolation arrangements.

  • Demonstrate the knowledge and understanding required to undertake their duties in accordance with the relevant Network Rail standards, procedures and Sentinel competence requirements.

Delegates:

  • Must be a minimum age of 18.

  • Must meet the requirements of Network Rail Standard NR/L1/OHS/051 (Drugs & Alcohol).

  • Hold a current Sentinel Track Safety Card endorsed with PTS (DC).

  • Hold a current First Aid for Electrical Accidents certification

  • Must hold the COSS or IWA Competence

  • Must have completed the LEVEL B CORE Network Rail eLearning and have the certificate to evidence this

Level B Strapping

The Level B – Strapping training course provides delegates with the knowledge and practical skills required to undertake strapping duties safely and competently on the DC electrified railway.

 

The course covers electrical safety, isolation arrangements, identification of relevant equipment, the safe application and removal of short-circuiting straps, roles and responsibilities, communication requirements and associated hazards and control measures.

​

The aim of this course is to train delegates to competently carry out testing and strapping procedures in accordance with the DC Electrified Lines Working Instructions.

​

1 Day Course

​

At the end of the course the delegate will be able to:

  • Understand the requirements and responsibilities of Level B Strapping.

  • Identify relevant DC electrical equipment and associated hazards.

  • Safely apply and remove short-circuiting straps in accordance with the required procedures.

  • Follow the correct DC isolation and electrical safety arrangements.

  • Carry out the required safety checks before, during and after strapping activities.

  • Understand their roles, responsibilities and limits of authority.

  • Communicate effectively with relevant personnel throughout the isolation process.

  • Demonstrate the knowledge and practical competence required to undertake Level B Strapping duties in accordance with the relevant Network Rail standards and Sentinel competence requirements.

Delegates:

  • Must be a minimum age of 18.

  • Must meet the medical requirements of Network Rail Standard NR/L2/OHS/00124 Medical Fitness Level 1, 2, 3, or 4.

  • Must meet the requirements of Network Rail Standard NR/L1/OHS/051 (Drugs & Alcohol).

  • Current Sentinel Track Safety Card endorsed with PTS DCCR.

  • Current First Aid for Electrical Accidents certification.

  • Must hold DCCR Level B Core Module.

CRE DCCR01

The CRE DCCR 01 training course provides delegates with the knowledge and understanding required to undertake their duties safely and competently when working within the DC Conductor Rail (DCCR) environment.

 

The course covers relevant electrical safety principles, hazards and control measures, roles and responsibilities, safe working requirements and the procedures associated with DC conductor rail activities.

​

The aim of this course is to provide delegates with the skills and underpinning knowledge required to undertake their duties in line with the associated competence.

The key aims for Direct Current Conductor Rail (Basic Maintenance) are:

To develop a persons’ understanding of:

  • Safety risk

  • DCCR – installation, repair and replacement

  • Ramps

  • Conductor rail joint

  • Anchors

  • Insulators

  • Guard boarding and shrouding

3 Day Course

​

At the end of the course the delegate will be able to:

  • Understand the requirements associated with working in a DC Conductor Rail (DCCR) environment.

  • Recognise relevant electrical hazards and associated risks.

  • Understand their roles, responsibilities and limits of authority.

  • Apply the appropriate electrical safety procedures and control measures.

  • Follow the correct procedures when undertaking DCCR-related activities.

  • Communicate effectively with relevant personnel to maintain safe working arrangements.

  • Respond appropriately to changes or hazards that may affect electrical safety.

  • Demonstrate the knowledge and understanding required to undertake their duties in accordance with the relevant Network Rail standards, procedures and competence requirements.

Delegates:

  • Must be a minimum age of 18.

  • Must hold a valid Sentinel Track Safety Card endorsed with PTS & PTS DCCR Working Near or Adjacent to the DC Conductor Rail

  • Must hold Manual Handling (HSE T9)

  • Must hold First Aid for Electrical Accidents (HSE T32)

  • Must meet the medical requirements of Network Rail Standard NR/L2/OHS/00124 Medical Fitness Level 1.

  • Must have a good level of literacy to meet Entry Qualifications.

  • Must meet the requirements of Network Rail Standard NR/L1/OHS/051 (Drugs & Alcohol).

  • Must have the relevant small tool (PTMP) training – Jacks, Hydraulics, Hand tools etc.

CRE DCCR02

The CRE DCCR 02 training course provides delegates with the knowledge, understanding and practical skills required to undertake their duties safely and competently within the DC Conductor Rail (DCCR) environment.

 

The course builds upon the principles of DC electrical safety and covers the relevant procedures, hazards and control measures, roles and responsibilities, communication requirements and safe systems of work associated with DCCR activities.

The aim of this course is to provide delegates with the skills and underpinning knowledge required to undertake their duties in line with the associated competence.

The key aims for Direct Current Conductor Rail (Advanced Maintenance) are:

​

To develop a persons’ understanding in relation to design and drawings of:

  • Safety risk

  • DCCR – installation, repair and replacement

  • Ramps

  • Conductor rail joint

  • Anchors

  • Insulators

  • Guard boarding and shrouding

4 Day Course

​

At the end of the course the delegate will be able to:

  • Understand and apply the requirements associated with DCCR activities.

  • Identify DC electrical hazards, risks and appropriate control measures.

  • Understand their roles, responsibilities and limits of authority.

  • Apply the appropriate electrical safety arrangements and procedures.

  • Follow the correct safe system of work when undertaking DCCR-related duties.

  • Communicate effectively with relevant personnel during DCCR activities.

  • Respond appropriately to changes, hazards or unsafe conditions.

  • Demonstrate the knowledge and practical competence required to undertake their duties in accordance with the relevant Network Rail standards, procedures and competence requirements.

  • Must be a minimum age of 18.

  • Must hold a valid Sentinel Track Safety Card endorsed with PTS & PTS DCCR Working Near or Adjacent to the DC Conductor Rail

  • Must hold Manual Handling (HSE T9)

The aim of the CRE DCCR 03 course is to provide delegates with the knowledge and practical understanding required to undertake their duties safely and competently within the DC Conductor Rail environment, in accordance with relevant Network Rail standards and procedures.

​

The key aims for Direct Current Conductor Rail (Advanced Maintenance) are:

  • Must hold a valid Sentinel Track Safety Card endorsed with PTS and PTS DCCR – Working Near or Adjacent to the DC Conductor Rail.

  • Must meet the applicable Network Rail medical fitness requirements.

  • Must meet the applicable Network Rail Drugs & Alcohol requirements.

  • Must hold First Aid for Electrical Accidents, where required for the competence.

  • Must have a sufficient level of literacy and understanding of English to meet the course and competence requirements.

  • Must hold any prerequisite DCCR/CRE competencies required for progression to CRE DCCR 03.

  • Must have the appropriate PPE for practical training.

  • Must hold DCCR 01.

DCCR04

The CRE DCCR 04 training course provides delegates with the knowledge, understanding and practical skills required to undertake their designated duties safely and competently within the DC Conductor Rail (DCCR) environment.

​

The course covers relevant DC electrical safety requirements, conductor rail engineering procedures, hazards and control measures, roles and responsibilities, safe working practices and communication requirements.

​

The aim of the CRE DCCR 04 course is to provide delegates with the knowledge, skills and practical understanding required to undertake their designated duties safely and competently within the DC Conductor Rail environment, in accordance with relevant Network Rail standards, procedures and competence requirements.

​

At the end of the course the delegate will be able to:

  • Understand and apply the relevant DCCR procedures and safety requirements.

  • Identify electrical hazards and risks and apply appropriate control measures.

  • Understand their roles, responsibilities and limits of authority.

  • Follow the correct safe working arrangements within the DC Conductor Rail environment.

  • Apply the appropriate procedures when undertaking CRE DCCR 04 activities.

  • Communicate effectively with relevant personnel.

  • Demonstrate the knowledge and practical competence required to undertake CRE DCCR 04 duties in accordance with relevant Network Rail standards and procedures.

​​

Delegates:

  • Must be a minimum of 18 years of age.

  • Must hold a valid Sentinel Track Safety Card, endorsed with PTS and PTS DCCR – Working Near or Adjacent to the DC Conductor Rail.

  • Must hold Manual Handling (HSE T9).

  • Must hold First Aid for Electrical Accidents (HSE T32).

  • Must meet the applicable Network Rail medical fitness requirements.

  • Must meet the applicable Network Rail Drugs & Alcohol requirements.

  • Must have a suitable level of literacy and understanding of English to meet the course requirements.

  • Must hold the appropriate underpinning DCCR competencies/experience required for progression to DCCR 04.

  • Must have appropriate PPE available for the practical elements of the course.

DCCR05

The CRE DCCR 05 training course provides delegates with the knowledge, understanding and practical skills required to inspect negative bonding systems within the DC Conductor Rail environment.

​

The course covers the identification and inspection of negative bonding equipment, relevant electrical hazards and control measures, safe working practices, inspection requirements and the recognition and reporting of defects.

​

The aim of the CRE DCCR 05 course is to provide delegates with the knowledge, skills and practical understanding required to inspect negative bonding systems safely and competently within the DC Conductor Rail environment, in accordance with relevant Network Rail standards, procedures and competence requirements.

​

At the end of the course the delegate will be able to:

  • Understand the purpose and requirements of negative bonding systems.

  • Identify relevant components associated with negative bonding equipment.

  • Carry out appropriate inspections of negative bonding systems.

  • Identify hazards and apply the required safety precautions and control measures.

  • Recognise and report defects or unsafe conditions identified during inspections.

  • Understand their roles, responsibilities and limits of authority.

  • Demonstrate the knowledge and practical competence required to undertake DCCR 05 duties in accordance with relevant Network Rail standards, procedures and competence requirements.

Delegates:

  • Be 18 years of age or over.

  • Hold the appropriate PTS/DCCR track safety competence for working in a DC conductor rail environment.

  • Meet the applicable Network Rail medical fitness requirements.

  • Meet the applicable Network Rail Drugs & Alcohol requirements.

  • Have sufficient knowledge and experience of DC conductor rail equipment and negative bonding systems appropriate to the competence.

  • Hold any underpinning CRE/DCCR competencies specified within the approved DCCR 05 training and assessment material.

  • Have sufficient literacy, communication and understanding of English to safely undertake the training and assessment.

  • Wear/provide the appropriate PPE where practical training or assessment is undertaken.

NSCD OPS

This course is designed to develop knowledge, understanding and skills of persons responsible for operating Negative Short-Circuit Switches as part of their duties on Network Rail infrastructure. It delivers a standalone competence.

​

The aim of this course is to provide delegates with the skills and underpinning knowledge required to operate the new Negative Short-Circuiting Switch (NSCD) within an updated isolation procedure.

​

At the end of the course the delegate will be able to:

  • Explain the motivation for the introduction of the new fixed Negative Short-Circuiting Devices known as NSCDs.

  • Explain the functions and meanings of all NSCD Local Control Panel (LCP) controls and indicators.

  • Operate the NSCD LCP correctly in accordance with the B4 isolation procedure.

  • Explain all applicable contingency arrangements relating to the operation of the NSCD LCP.​

  • Must meet the medical requirements of Network Rail Standard NR/L2/OHS/00124 Medical Fitness Level 1, 2, 3, or 4.

  • Must hold a valid Sentinel Track Safety Card endorsed with PTS DCCR

  • Must hold DCCR Level B Core Module

  • Current Certification for Electrical Rescue and First Aid
