This course is designed to train persons who are responsible for undertaking this course as part of their duties on Network Rail Infrastructure. It is designed to develop a person’s knowledge, understanding and skills and is therefore particularly suited to persons required to prove their capability in these areas.
The aim of this course is to enable staff to become familiar with the procedures for gaining access to, and egress from, power distribution locations and to become aware of the non-work related precautionary measures to be taken during their occupation.
1 Day Course
At the end of the training the delegate will be able to:
-
Identify legislation and industry standards applicable to their duties.
-
Understand the key parts of the legislation and industry standards appertaining to this course.
-
Identify and describe the main hazards associated with power distribution locations.
-
State the main precautionary measures to be taken while inside power distribution locations.
Delegates:
-
Be medically fit, medical levels 1/2/3/4 are acceptable. TVP self-declaration form also acceptable.
-
External Staff to hold valid Emergency First Aid certification (including for electrical accidents) or equivalent.
-
Network Rail Staff to hold HSE T32 EAFEA (do not require separate first aid).
-
Possess adequate written and verbal communication skills in English, to a level necessary to avoid danger.

Must meet the requirements of Network Rail Standard NR/L1/OHS/051 (Drugs & Alcohol).
LD DIST
This course is designed to train persons who are responsible for undertaking this course as part of their duties on Network Rail Infrastructure. It is designed to develop a person’s knowledge, understanding and skills and is therefore particularly suited to persons required to prove their capability in these areas.
The aim of this course is to enable delegates to become familiar with applicable safety documentation and to understand their personal responsibilities as recipients.
1/2 Day Course
At the end of the training the delegate will be able to:

Be familiar with the design and format of applicable safety documentation.

Understand the requirements for receiving, transferring (where applicable) and cancelling safety documentation.
-
Understand their responsibilities as the recipient of safety documentation.
Delegates:

Must be a minimum age of 18.

Must meet the medical requirements of Network Rail Standard NR/L2/OHS/00124 Medical Fitness Level 1.
-
Must have a good level of literacy to meet Entry Qualifications.

Must meet the requirements of Network Rail Standard NR/L1/OHS/051 (Drugs & Alcohol).
DIST 16
This course is designed to teach the delegate the HV Cable Competent Person (HVCCP) is responsibility for implementing and maintaining the relevant control measures that are identified by the HV Cable Risk Assessor, documented in the HV Cable Risk Assessment, to protect staff from harm as well as protect the cable / cable route from physical damage.
They will also be responsible for ensuring that the cable or cable route is undamaged at the end of the work and reinstating the cable back to operational use. (If applicable)
The aim of this course is be able to act according to standards and rules when on site, and if required act as an intermediate point / contact with the ECO, M,O.M, BTP or E&PME.
At the end of the training the delegate will be able to:
-
Confirm that all protective measures specified by the HV Cable Risk Assessor / Assessment are in place, including any planned outages, before any work commences
-
Briefing the relevant parties on the protection measure(s) and the safe limits and limitations of work.
-
Ensuring that all protective measures remain effective whilst work is undertaken.
-
If applicable, returning the cable(s) back to service at the end of the work or if the work is suspended.
-
If applicable ensure the cable(s) are left in safe condition when work is suspended
-
Knowledge of the systems and techniques of avoidance of electrical hazards on electrical power supply equipment including cables.

Understand of the risks associated with working near and recognising all types of HV cable types used on the railway, including methods of safe working close to live cables and the limits of safe working as well as specific hazards and risks associated with oil-filled HV cables.
Delegates:

Must hold a valid and in date certificate for First Aid for Electrical Accidents or equivalent. (e.g. Full first aid which covers electrical accidents or HSE T32)

Delegates must be a minimum of 18 years of age.
-
Knowledge of industry protocols relating to safety critical communications.
-
Valid PTS Competence.
-
Awareness of the hazards associated with electrical fires.
DIST 17
This course is designed to teach delegates the HV Cable Risk Assessor (HVCRA) identifies the safety, environmental, task and performance risks associated with any work undertaken in the vicinity of HV cables or cable routes.
The aim of this course is to determine the relevant control measures for these risks to protect workers from harm as well as the cable(s) and/or cable(s) route from physical damage.
At the end of the training the delegate will be able to:

Identify of cable(s) and cable(s) route and their associated hazards
-
Have knowledge of all relevant forms & diagram requirements
-
The ability to complete a suitable and sufficient risk assessment of the work
-
Able to identify appropriate protection measures, including a switch out (Southern Region only) or isolation.

Meet the competency requirements in NR/L3/ELP/22001.
Delegates:

Knowledge of the avoidance of electrical hazards on electrical power supply equipment.

This course is designed to train persons who are responsible for undertaking this course as part of their duties on Network Rail Infrastructure. It is designed to develop a person’s knowledge, understanding and skills and is therefore particularly suited to persons required to prove their capability in these areas.
The aim of this course is
-
To instill a clear understanding of the procedure for arranging the isolation and earth of specified equipment with the ECO.
-
To instill an understanding and appreciation of the impact the isolation arrangements will have on the operational network.
-
To instill a clear understanding of the interface that exists between Network Rail and Distribution Network Operators and Transmission Network Operators.
-
To develop the ability to make out and issue safety documentation in accordance with specified requirements.
2 Day Course
At the end of the training the delegate will be able to:
-
Make use of applicable electrical drawings/diagrams.
-
Demonstrate the requirements for communicating effectively with the ECO and the DNO / TNO Senior Authorised Person.
-
Explain the impact of the isolation arrangements on the operational network.
-
Demonstrate the requirements for communicating effectively with Level B persons.
-
Create Safe Systems of Work and issue safety documentation to appropriate staff and contractors.
Delegates:

Must be a minimum age of 18.

Must hold a valid Sentinel Track Safety.

Must meet the medical requirements of Network Rail Standard NR/L2/OHS/00124 Medical Fitness Level 1.

Must have a good level of literacy to meet Entry Qualifications.

Must meet the requirements of Network Rail Standard NR/L1/OHS/051 (Drugs & Alcohol).

Must have been Level B ACi or AC + DCi for 12 months.

Must hold valid First Aid for Electrical Accidents competence (either HSE T32 or industry version).

Level B AC
This course is designed to train persons who are responsible for undertaking this course as part of their duties on Network Rail Infrastructure. It is designed to develop a person’s knowledge, understanding and skills and is therefore particularly suited to persons required to prove their capability in these areas.
The aim of this course is to provide delegates with the skills and underpinning knowledge required to undertake their duties in line with the associated capability.
3 Day Course
At the end of the training the delegate will be able to:

Understand the configuration of three phase and single phase power distribution equipment.
-
Identify three phase and single phase power distribution equipment.
-
This course covers the requirements of the standard NR/L3/ELP/21067.
-
For the AC + DC i competency this course must be completed first.
-
A category training event will now take place as part of this initial Level B (trainer to decide the most relevant event based on the group).
